Rocket City Nickname
Huntsville earned the nickname "Rocket City, U.S.A." after the establishment of NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center and the Army's missile development programs at Redstone Arsenal during the 1950s and 1960s. The aerospace and defense culture remains central to Huntsville's identity, economy, and continued population growth.
